I remember decades ago coming across Shel Silverstein's The Missing Piece on a bookshelf in a pre-school where I briefly taught. It masqueraded as a life lesson, but is built on a bitter premise that one has to be self-indulgent to be fulfilled in life.
We need more life affirming books aimed at children to counter the vile nonsense that "all the right people" are pawning off on our children as if bitterness and craziness were wisdom.
